About Rachel 

     Driven by an interest in storytelling, Rachel Stein has performed in both the opera and musical theater genres. Past roles include The Witch from Into the Woods (2006), Asaka in Once on This Island (2007), Tracy Turnblad in Hairspray (2011) and more recently U/s Tallulah Carter in Hotel Casablanca (2014) and  The Mistress of the Novices in Suor Angelica (2015).

 

     Ms. Stein participated in scene study programs at the Brevard Music Center under the direction of Dean Anthony, as well as the Atlanta Opera’s High School Opera Institute with Walter Huff and Kennesaw State University’s Opera Theater. Scenes taken from The Mikado, The Old Maid and the Thief, Dido and Aeneas, Riders to the Sea, The Tenderland, Le Nozze di Figaro, La Traviata, and Die Zauberflöte are a part of Ms. Stein’s repertoire.   

 

     A native of Atlanta, Ms. Stein studied acting for four years at the Metropolitan Theater Conservatory under the tutelage of Kendrick Phillips, began her vocal training with Valerie Kennedy, and is pursuing degrees in Musicology and Vocal Performance at Kennesaw State University.

 

    She studies voice with Eileen Moremen and has attended master classes with Stephanie Blythe, Chuck Hudson, Michael Dennis Browne, and Leah Partridge. As a chorister, she sings with the Kennesaw State University Chorale and appeared as a featured soloist for the Community and Alumni Choir under the direction of Dr. Leslie Blackwell

    Believing in the multi-faceted nature of storytelling Ms. Stein explores multiple mediums of expression. In poetry, she co-wrote the 2011 first place winner “Dreaming of Green” in the national Rachel Carson Sense of Wonder Contest. She premiered her first composition, "Trio for Now" in 2015, for soprano, clarinet, and piano. She will be premiering a new piece during her senior recital in December of 2016.
